I loved the movie Forrest Gump. In the opening and the closing scenes of the movie we see a single feather carried by the breeze. The symbolism of these scenes, and and my personal connection to the feather can best be summed up by a scene late in the movie, when Forrest is kneeling over Jenny's grave and says,
“I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time.”
It’s this quote which speaks to the symbolic meaning of the feather. The events of our lives can seem so random and inconsequential, but in retrospect, we can weave all of these events together to reveal meaningful beauty, even destiny.
